• Brookfield currently manages over 95,000 hectares of freehold timberland across the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul
• In aggregate, plantations represent an species mix with 30% pine and 70% eucalyptus stands
• Pine timberland assets are located within the most competitive and dynamic softwood processing and consuming regions in Brazil, while the eucalyptus timberland assets are positioned within states that are attracting the country’s most significant capital investment in pulp, pig iron and other wood converting facilities
• All timberland investments by Brookfield are, or are working to become, certified under a Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification scheme (“PEFC”), as this provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests
• In addition, each of Brookfield’s timberlands operations is regulated by federal and state laws, which, in many cases, are more rigorous than those required under the various certification schemes
