We aim to have high agricultural production capacity due to soil quality, favorable weather and topography conditions in areas that will benefit greatly from infrastructure improvement over the next 10 years.
We believe that farmland investment in Brazil is attractive for several reasons. With 22% of the world’s arable lands, the country has abundant usable land resources. Brazil’s land resources, combined with ideal climate conditions, create an environment for stable agricultural yields, and the ability to produce two to three harvests in a single year. Brazil is one of the world’s leading low-cost producers and exporters of many agricultural products, including biofuels.
Brookfield Brazil has owned and managed rural real estate in Brazil for almost 30 years. Over the course of the last years, it has acquired over 100,000 hectares of farmland suitable for many agricultural uses. These opportunities arose as a result of industry relationships that Brookfield Brazil’s premium cattle operation, Bartira, has developed over the years.
Moreover, currently under construction on Brookfield Brazil’s Mosquito Ranch in São Paulo estate is what is believed to be one of the world’s largest sugar and ethanol production mills, which will be capable of grinding 80 million tons of sugarcane per year.
